Vol. 3, No. 3: Key Elements Of A Sustainable National Reconciliation Program In Ghana, By Vasuk
03 December, 2001
Truth and reconciliation commissions have become the mechanism of choice adopted by countries to confront legacies of repression and human rights abuse. A truth and reconciliation commission provides an avenue for examining past violations with the view towards reform as well as reconciliation among victims, survivors, perpetrators and their political allies. In Ghana the Kufuor Administration has identified ?national reconciliation? as one of its primary political objectives, and
has, accordingly, proposed the establishment of a National Reconciliation Commission. The administration?s proposals for such a commission are contained in a National Reconciliation Bill currently under consideration in the Parliament of Ghana.
