The Centre for Democratic Development Ghana (CDD-Ghana) is supporting the skills training of 45 youths in the Asutifi North District of the Ahafo Region.

The 45 youths from three communities namely; Ntotroso, Kenyasi No. 1 and Kenyasi No. 2 would be receiving a 30-day training in soap making and welding after which the trainees would be awarded certificates by the National Vocational Training Institute (NVTI).

The Centre for Democratic Development with funding from the European Union has built two skills and Enterprise Centres at Ntotroso and Kenyasi No. 2 both in the Asutifi North District of the Ahafo Region.

Executive Director of CDD-Ghana, Professor Henry Kwasi Prempeh speaking at the inauguration of the Skills and Enterprise Villages at Ntotroso and Kenyasi No. 2 said, “the Center took a critical decision in 2018 to cultivate an untapped but important demographic, the youth. The aim was not only to develop and sustain their interest, while encouraging them to participate in the country’s governance and democratic processes but also, to contribute to their total development as citizens.”

Professor Prempeh noted that the Asutifi North District was chosen out of five districts because the district was able to provide the needed documents including; annual reports, medium-term development plan and annual action plan.

He noted that the trainees would receive financial support at the end of the training to start their own business.

“Those learning soaps and detergents making will each receive an amount of GHS5,000 each while those learning welding and fabrication will receive GHS1,500 together with a complete set of welding materials. In addition, each trainee will be given a daily amount of GHS20 to support the payment of their transportation.”

The Omanhene of Ntotroso Traditional Council, Barima Twereku Ampem III admonished the beneficiaries of the programme to make good use of the opportunity they have got to build their future.

The District Chief Executive of Asutifi North, Anthony Mensah on his part said the Assembly had already constructed a skills’ development centre at Kenyasi Number 1 which will be used as one of the skills centre for the project.
