The Ghana Center for Democratic Development (CDD-Ghana) has officially released its border security project report which aims at gathering information on security in communities close to the various borders.

In August 2021, CDD-Ghana deployed trained local volunteers to some selected border districts across Ghana to monitor and report on issues related to border security.

The findings presented in this report cover community monitoring and observations by the local volunteers from August 15 to September 30, 2021.

Within the reporting period, the 85 volunteers visited 266 communities across 11 out of the 16 administrative regions of Ghana.

The exercise forms part of the Center’s Enhancing citizens participation in the border security management project.

In the maiden report on Border Community Monitoring, CDD-Ghana reports that there appears to be a seemingly cordial relationship between residents in the observed border communities and the security agencies.

The report also revealed that the security situation in the monitored border communities was generally calm, with few purported criminal cases in some border communities that have received the attention of security agencies present in the respective districts.

According to the survey, Community-Based Organisations/ Non-Governmental Organisations, and other state institutions, have been proactive in organizing meetings with residents of border communities to discuss security, safety and terrorism awareness within the reporting period.

More so, reports gathered from the field indicate that CDD-Ghana’s community volunteers have been relatively more proactive in organizing meetings with community members to discuss security, safety, and terrorism awareness within the reporting period.
