In June and July 2023, the Citizens’ Coalition led a series of regional and student forums where regional and student chapters of the Coalition were launched in the Western, Ashanti, Volta, and Upper West regions with a call for participants to be citizens, and not spectators, in an effort to foster a culture of accountable and inclusive governance and promote a sense of citizenship in the nation. The student chapters were launched in the University of Health and Allied Sciences (UHAS, Ho); Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST, Kumasi); University of Ghana (UG, Legon); and the Dombo University of Business and Integrated Development Studies (Wa Campus)

The forums provided a platform for vibrant discussions between citizens and key members of the Coalition on democratic ideals, ethical conduct in public service, and the role of citizens, especially the youth, women and persons with disabilities (PWDs) in shaping the nation through advocacy/demands for accountability from duty bearers. Every Human Life Ghana (Ashanti Region), Friends of the Nation (Western Region), Africa Disability Institute (Volta Region), and CDA-Ghana (Upper West Region) are CSO partners who coordinated the forums.

The regional chapters are intended to encourage grassroots participation and amplify the impact of advocacy initiatives. These localized citizen platforms will address region-specific concerns, fostering inclusiveness, informed dialogue, and collaborative action for positive change at the local and national levels. The Student Chapters of the Coalition recognize the unique potential of young people as they formulate their ideas and beliefs in school. Leveraging this crucial developmental phase, the program seeks to guide young individuals to become informed and proactive citizens who prioritize transparency, accountability, and social responsibility.
