The Ghana Center for Democratic Development (CDD-Ghana) is delighted to announce that Ambassador Francis Alex Tsegah, a Senior Fellow at the Center, an Advisory Board Member of the Coalition of Domestic Election Observers (CODEO) and member of the West Africa Election Observers Network (WAEON), heads the ECOWAS Election Observation Mission (EOM) for the legislative elections in Senegal, scheduled for today, November 17, 2024.

Ambassador Tsegah is a former Ghanaian diplomat and the first Ambassador of Ghana to the Kingdom of Spain from 2004 to 2009.

As the Head of the ECOWAS EOM, Ambassador Tsegah will oversee a 90-member team of representatives from civil society organizations, electoral management bodies (EMBs), foreign affairs ministries, and the ECOWAS Commission. The mission will work collaboratively to assess and report on the electoral process, ensuring it aligns with democratic principles and international standards.

During his stay, Ambassador Tsegah, the Head of the ECOWAS EOM, who will be assisted by a technical team led by Serigne Mamadou KA, acting Head of the Electoral Assistance Division, will engage various stakeholders, including the Autonomous National Electoral Commission (CENA), the government, civil society organizations, and the media, to promote transparency, fairness, and peace during the elections.

We wish Ambassador Tsegah well on this important assignment. His leadership and experience will be invaluable in ensuring a credible and peaceful electoral process in Senegal. Our best wishes go with him and the ECOWAS team on this critical mission.

On this important occasion, CDD-Ghana also extends its best wishes to the people of Senegal as they prepare to exercise their democratic rights. We encourage all stakeholders to approach the elections with unity, respect, and a commitment to peace and credibility. We are confident that this process will not only strengthen Senegal’s democratic institutions but also serve as an example for the region and beyond, especially as Ghana also goes to the polls in three weeks.
